This month I'm talking with administrators and owner-physicians at independent ambulatory surgery centers with one to four operating rooms. I want to know what happens between a vendor's implant invoice and the paid claim: the serial number that has to match the case log, the contract carve-out that gets paid short, the paperwork an authorization or an appeal wants, and the estimate a self-pay patient asks for, all in a year when Medicare is moving hundreds of bigger procedures into centers like yours.

I have no product to show you and nothing to sign up for, and I never need patient details. What I'm after is the plain version: which of these you absorb, which you pay someone to handle, and which you'd gladly never see again.
